Principal Technical Program Manager (Quantum Hardware)
Overview
In this role you lead the end-to-end execution of Microsoft’s quantum hardware initiatives, coordinating cross-functional teams to advance scalable, fault-tolerant quantum devices. You shape hardware roadmaps, manage external partnerships, and communicate progress to executives, all while upholding a culture of growth, innovation, and inclusion. You will work at the frontier of quantum hardware, collaborating with physicists, engineers, and partners to accelerate scale-up and deliver real impact for 1st‑party customers. ResponsibilitiesLead end-to-end program management for quantum hardware initiatives from concept through deliveryBuild and maintain hardware platform roadmaps with milestones, resources, schedules, and risk plansCoordinate across physics, electronics, cryoelectronics, materials science, hardware control, manufacturing, supply chain, and cloud operationsManage supplier and partner relationships, ensuring compliance with standards for quality, safety, and data securityIdentify and mitigate technical, schedule, and operational risks with a focus on continuous improvementOversee Agile processes and ensure timely delivery of milestonesIncorporate feedback from researchers, manufacturing partners, Azure Quantum teams, and government customersDevelop concise, data-driven executive reports on status, risks, dependencies, and impactUphold Microsoft values and culture in all activities
Key requirementsBachelor's Degree in quantum information, physics, materials science, electrical engineering, hardware systems, or related field, or equivalent experience3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projectsAbility to meet Microsoft security screening requirements (Microsoft Cloud Background Check)Citizenship verification for export control compliance (passport-based) or equivalent status as requiredCollaborative mindsetStrong communication with executive audiencesAbility to thrive in ambiguityQuantum hardware developmentDevice physics and cryoelectronicsHigh-speed electronics and materials science
