Production Welder

Welder Position in South GeorgiaWe are seeking experienced welders in South Georgia to support a high-profile naval submarine production program. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for highly skilled professionals capable of meeting rigorous military and industrial quality standards. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in hands-on welding techniques and possess strong technical comprehension. The role includes both practical weld testing and classroom-based assessments to verify readiness for this mission-critical work.Key Responsibilities:Perform structural welding using Pulse MIG and TIG with 100S wire (primary processes), along with Spray Transfer and StickWeld a range of materials according to established technical proceduresInterpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and frame referencesAccurately read and apply weld symbols including fillet, bevel, double bevel, and all-around symbolsUse hand tools and equipment such as grinders, wire brushes, and weld gaugesConduct oxy-fuel preheating, carbon arc gouging, and inspect welds for defectsIdentify and understand base metal flaws and weld discontinuities (per NAVSEA 248 standards)Maintain safety, cleanliness, and compliance across job sitesFollow Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), safety procedures, and quality requirementsTesting & Assessment Requirements:Pass a hands-on weld test to demonstrate skill levelComplete a timed open-book assessment to confirm technical comprehension:Identify components on blueprints (frames, assemblies, etc.)Recognize and interpret standard weld symbolsUnderstand weld orientation (near/far side of reference lines)Demonstrate strong academic, reading, and comprehension skillsMinimum Qualifications:5+ years of welding experience in shipbuilding, industrial, or related environmentsMust pass a NAVSEA 248-compliant weld testHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredStrong working knowledge of weld defects, prep work, and machine setupExperience in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and adverse environmentsMust be a U.S. citizen and be able to pass a background check for security clearance requirementsAbility to work all shifts and overtime as neededCapable of lifting up to 50 lbsMust provide own standard welding toolsReliable transportation requiredPreferred Qualifications:Completion of vocational training, military welding school, or formal apprenticeshipExperience in naval shipyard or submarine manufacturingAbility to interpret technical drawings, shipyard procedures, and weld specsSolid math and measurement skillsFamiliarity with working in military shipbuilding environmentsValid or obtainable U.S. passportWillingness to travel up to 30% when requiredPhysical & Visual Requirements:Must pass Jaeger J1 near-vision and Ishihara color vision testsComfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperature/noise environmentsFrequent climbing, kneeling, lifting, crawling, crouching, and standing requiredWork Structure:Reports to a Shop SupervisorWorks as part of a team focused on high-quality, safe, and timely completion of submarine production tasksResponsible for maintaining a clean and secure work environment and proper documentation on site
