The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer has highly advanced skills in reporting and dashboard development, Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse data architecture as well as analytical methods and models. The candidate will analyze existing BI and DW architecture and make recommendations to optimize and develop common data sets in Tableau and SSRS. They will create recommended improvements, develop complex reporting and dashboards and be responsible for quality and accuracy in reporting and dashboards.
Essential Functions:
Development Lifecycle: Participate in the full lifecycle of BI development, from requirements gathering to end-user support. Act as a primary team point of contact for data, reporting and dashboards.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and data engineers to translate requirements into effective insights via reports and visualizations
Design: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of business intelligence solutions, leveraging data warehousing, and analytics architecture principles
Development: Develop reports, complex dashboards, analytical and predictive models using Tableau, SSRS, SQL, R, Python and SAS. Models to be developed, for example, may include models to evaluate historical losses or forecast losses, forecast new growth or establish valuation of assets and cash flows.
Data Architecture: Make recommendations for data architecture within Data Warehouse and optimize data architecture in Tableau to minimize reporting code development, report code complexity and maintenance as well as reduce nightly batch window and report load times.
Metadata Management: Make recommendations on metadata structures for reporting and data. Create and maintain metadata for optimization, efficiency and scale of development teams as well as knowledge of reporting and dashboards for business users.
Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to elicit requirements withing a financial business context as well as explain complex reports, dashboards to managers and end users.
Objectives: Ensures individual objectives are aligned to achieve the overall corporate goals and promotes innovation in reporting, modeling and analytics to enhance the business.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in Business Intelligence, preferably within the financial lending and/or leasing sector.
Data Architecture: Strong background and familiarity with relational databases, data normalization and data warehouse denormalization approaches including star schema and snowflake data architectures. Ability to analyze data needed for reporting and document optimal data warehouse, reporting tool object layer or report level data architectures.
BI Development Tools: 5+ years of experience using Tableau and SSRS.
Development Languages: Highly proficient SQL development capability. Proficiency in R and Python. Familiarity with SAS preferred.
Data Testing: Proficiency in creating and documenting test cases to validate reports, dashboards and analytical models.
Technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving and decision-making skills
Strong understanding of business principles of cost/benefit analysis, risk management, marketing, collections and operations. Ability to understand complex business logic for scoring and decisioning.
Ability to prioritize according to the strategic direction of the organization, ability to meet deadlines and follow through on the completion of high-profile projects and initiatives
Highly organized and detail oriented with the proven ability to multi-task
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with various levels of an organization
