Litigation Legal Practice Assistant

Burr & Forman LLP has an immediate opening in our Birmingham, AL office for a full-time litigation legal practice assistant. This role involves performing complex administrative tasks that require knowledge of legal terminology and processes, including preparing and filing legal documents, managing calendars, and coordinating logistics for meetings. The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with at least two years of experience in a legal setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the legal team while managing a variety of responsibilities.KEY CONTRIBUTIONSPrepare, edit, and proof briefs, motions, discovery, pleadings, memos, correspondence and other similar documents and reportsPerform complex administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and legal processesFile briefs, pleadings, and other filings in district/state/federal courtSchedule and coordinate logistics for meetings, travel and depositionsMaintain calendars including court deadlines and appearancesEnter billable time and edit time and pre-bills as neededProcess expense reimbursementsAnswer incoming calls, prepare documents for shipment, and distribute mailOpen and maintain client and case files and organizational documentsRespond to inquiries for informationOther responsibilities as neededTHE ESSENTIALSAt least two years of experience as a litigation legal secretary/assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment; experience in labor and employment litigation support is a plusAssociate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceKnowledge of district, state, and federal court and electronic filing proceduresProficient with Microsoft Word and ability to type 50 wpmHighly organized, detail-orientated, and proactive with a desire to take ownershipBalance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situationsStrong verbal and written communication skillsSome overtime may be requiredADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThis position is a unique opportunity to join a firm that prioritizes our clients, colleagues, and communities.
