Unit: Facilities Operations AdminDepartment: Facilities Operations AdminDuties & ResponsibilitiesVCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire an Electrician for Facilities Operations.The Electrician utilizes knowledge of the Electrical trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure ensuring efficient operation of Residential Life and Housing facilities; provides exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff, and students supporting the University’s mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression; identifies and documents system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advises management of tasks requiring priority attention; and provides quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime.Responsibilities Include (but Are Not Limited To)Reactive/Service WorkIndependently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of various building infrastructure, such as fire alarm systems, electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, motors, motor starters, low voltage controls, electrical portion of mechanical equipment, variable frequency drives and other electrical equipment/systems utilizing specialized knowledge of electrical theory and practiceIndependently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of appliances, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical systems.Preventive MaintenanceIndependently perform and complete regularly scheduled preventive maintenance to various building infrastructure, such as fire alarm control panels, electrical distribution systems, motors, generators, lighting systems, variable frequency drives and other electrical equipment/systemsCustomer Service/TeamworkWorks in a collaborative and collegial manner throughout the department, division and UniversityInteract with others to collectively resolve problems, accomplish mutual goals, and foster an atmosphere of trustShare information and ideas to improve customer service and promote Facilities Management’s goalsListens to and anticipates customer needs; provides clear explanations; responds quickly; takes initiative to assist internal and external customersCommunicates respectfully to internal and external customers; appreciates diversity and respects differencesCommunication And Monitoring Work Of OthersAdvise supervision and or management by recommending equipment maintenance tasks and identifying equipment needing priority attentionCommunicate orally and in writing regarding work schedules, system problems, estimated completion times and effects of system problems on occupant safety and comfortWork with lesser skilled team members in the various techniques of the trades to increase their skill level and ability to work independentlyUse trade knowledge to monitor work of contractors to assure compliance with specifications, codes and drawingsDesignated/Other DutiesOther duties as assignedWork/on-call during inclement weather and emergenciesAssume on-call responsibility on a rotating basisSubstitutes for the Superintendent, including time card approval and work site managementComputer Skills/AiMUtilize computer skills to access email and research parts/information as requiredDemonstrate working knowledge of AiM and AiM GO ensuring prompt completion of work requests and time card entry following all established work flow processes, including notes logs for all work requests over 30 daysOrganize Mechanical AreasClean and organize materials in the Shop and mechanical areasParticipates in periodic cleaning of shopQualificationsMinimum QualificationsSeveral years' experience in commercial/institutional electrical or mechanical maintenanceState of Virginia Journeyman Electrical License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of employmentState of Virginia Driver's LicenseHigh School diploma, GED, or equivalent requiredAbility to diagnose, repair, service, and install a wide variety of electrical systemsAbility to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customersKnowledge of appropriate building codesAbility to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopesAbility to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipmentDemonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCUPreferred Qualifications5+ years' experience in commercial/institutional mechanical and electrical maintenance preferredSalary Range: $65,000 - $69,000 ($31.25/hr - $33.17/hr) + up to $2,500 Sign-on BonusBenefits: All full-time university staff are eligible for VCU’s robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health benefits, paid annual and holiday leave, generous tuition benefits, retirement planning and savings options, tax-deferred annuity and cash match programs, employee discounts, well-being resources, abundant opportunities for career development and advancement, and more.FLSA Exemption Status: Non-ExemptHours per Week: 40Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pmRestricted Position: NoORP Eligible: NoFlexible Work Arrangement: Fully OnsiteUniversity Job Title: 17041N-17043N (Electrician FM 1 - 3)
