Outdoor Fellows Program, Director

University of West Alabama: Academic Affairs Location University of West Alabama Open Date Jan 13, 2026 Description The purpose of this 12-month staff position is to manage and direct the Outdoor Fellows Program, including program development, budgeting, and recruitment. Create meaningful educational experiences that allow students to explore and cultivate their interests in outdoor sports and conservation, such as, but not limited to, field trips, lectures, and community service opportunities. Work closely with campus constituents to develop and implement initiatives that promote the program across the state and region. Actively recruit potential Outdoor Fellows both in-state and out-of-state; advise candidates in the admissions process; travel to in-state and out-of-state high schools for private visits and to college fairs. Identify and secure funding opportunities such as grants, donations, and sponsorships with the goal of increasing the number of available scholarships and program activities. Seek, develop, and maintain relationships with professionals in the outdoor sports field who can serve as mentors and/or provide outdoor opportunities to program participants. Stay abreast of academic program and course offerings related to outdoor sports and environmental studies; advise Outdoor Fellows as needed on appropriate majors and coursework. Manage the scholarship award process, prepare letters to send to applicants, and communicate awards to Admissions and Financial Aid. Prepare and monitor the program budget. Assist current Outdoor Fellows in completing travel paperwork as needed. Advise the Provost of program activities and make recommendations for improvement. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Master's Degree from an accredited university. Strong written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators, and external constituencies. Excellent management, organizational, analytical, and project management skills. Two years of fundraising experience in a progressively responsible position. Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills. Desired Three or more years of experience working in program development. Background in public relations, marketing, or student services. Experience designing and developing marketing materials.
