Sports Medicine Physician (MD/DO)Position SummaryThe Sports Medicine Physician provides comprehensive, non-surgical medical care for patients with sports-related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. This role focuses on injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletes and active individuals across all ages and activity levels, utilizing evidence-based, patient-centered care.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and manage patients with sports-related and musculoskeletal injuriesDiagnose and treat conditions such as sprains, strains, fractures, overuse injuries, tendon disorders, and concussionsProvide non-operative treatment including rehabilitation planning, injections, and bracingPerform sports medicine procedures consistent with training and privileges (e.g., joint injections, ultrasound-guided procedures)Manage acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions in athletes and active patientsCoordinate care with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and primary care providersProvide sideline or event coverage as requiredEducate patients on injury prevention, conditioning, and return-to-play decisionsMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiativesSupervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or clinical staff as applicableComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standardsQualificationsDoctorate within specified field of medical practice from respective accredited school.Must be admissible to sit for either the Canadian or American Board or be certified by the Canadian Board and are members of either the Royal College of Physicians or Royal College of Surgeons, American board certification or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification. Board certification in area of specialty must be obtained within five years of employment.Must be granted medical staff appointments and associated facilities as are necessary to the commission of duties prior to commencement of employment.Must be insurable under the Health System's professional liability carrier prior to commencement of employment.Be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which they are assigned.Skills and CompetenciesExpertise in sports medicine and musculoskeletal careStrong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skillsProficiency in musculoskeletal examination and proceduresExcellent communication and patient counseling abilitiesAbility to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary care teamsCommitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centered careWork EnvironmentOutpatient sports medicine clinics, training facilities, and event venuesLimited inpatient responsibilities depending on practice modelPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical and athletic environmentsManual dexterity for musculoskeletal examinations and proceduresVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and sideline coverageRequirementsMust maintain state certification and/or licensure.Must be a licensed MD/DO in ND and MN
