Woodwork & Metalwork Technician - Technologies

The OpportunityWe are seeking a Woodwork and Metalwork Technician (0.6 FTE) to join our Secondary team at Carey Harrisdale.This is an exciting role for someone who loves working with timber, metals, tools, and machinery — and who takes pride in creating safe, functional, and inspiring workshop spaces. You’ll play an essential part in supporting our Design and Technologies teachers by keeping our workshops running smoothly and ready for hands-on learning.What Matters MostAt Carey, we believe great learning happens when creativity meets craftsmanship — and that starts with well-equipped, safe, and organised learning environments.Our Technician plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in ensuring every class has what it needs to bring projects to life — from cutting and welding to sanding, drilling, and finishing.Whether you’re an experienced tradesperson or a practical all-rounder with a background in fabrication, construction, or manufacturing, this is your chance to support the next generation of makers and problem-solvers.What You Will BringPractical, hands-on skills in woodwork and metalworkExperience using and maintaining workshop tools, machinery and equipment (bandsaws, welders, lathes, etc.)A solid understanding of workplace safety, materials handling, and PPE requirementsStrong organisational and troubleshooting skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively with teaching staffA commitment to supporting young people in a Christ-centred school communityExperience in an educational or training workshop is desirable, but not essential — full support and training will be provided.What You'll Be DoingPreparing timber, metal, and materials for student projects (Years 7–12)Maintaining and servicing machinery, hand tools, and safety systemsSetting up and packing down practical lessons and demonstrationsSupporting teachers during practical sessions where neededManaging stock, orders, and purchase recordsMaintaining safe, clean, and well-organised workshop spacesAssisting with D&T displays, exhibitions, and school eventsAbout CareyCarey is a vibrant Christian community where every role contributes to our mission — to see a world transformed by the love of God.At Carey Harrisdale, we’re committed to excellence in education, character formation, and relational culture.
