Data Center Technician — Job DescriptionJob Title: Data Center TechnicianLocation: United StatesEmployment Type: Full-TimeExperience Required: 0–3 YearsJob SummaryWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to support the daily operations, maintenance, and monitoring of data center infrastructure. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals with foundational knowledge of computer hardware, networking, cabling, servers, and IT support.The Data Center Technician will work with senior engineers and operations teams to install, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain servers, network equipment, and physical infrastructure in a fast-paced data center environment.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, rack, stack, cable, label, and decommission servers, switches, routers, and other hardware.Perform basic troubleshooting for server hardware, network connectivity, power, and cabling issues.Monitor data center systems, alerts, and environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and power usage.Replace failed hardware components such as hard drives, memory, power supplies, and network cables.Support remote-hands requests and assist internal teams with equipment checks and troubleshooting.Maintain accurate asset inventory, equipment records, rack diagrams, and documentation.Assist with network cable management, including copper and fiber-optic cabling.Follow standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and change-management processes.Escalate complex hardware, network, electrical, cooling, or security issues to senior technicians or engineers.Support data center moves, adds, changes, and equipment deployment projects.Perform routine inspections of racks, servers, UPS systems, PDUs, and other data center equipment.Work rotating shifts, weekends, or on-call schedules when required.Required QualificationsAssociate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, Networking, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience or technical training may also be considered.0–3 years of experience in IT support, desktop support, networking, hardware support, data center operations, or a related technical role.Basic understanding of server hardware, operating systems, networking, and computer components.Familiarity with TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, switches, routers, DNS, DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting.Basic knowledge of structured cabling, including Ethernet and fiber-optic cables.Ability to use hand tools and safely handle IT hardware and equipment.Strong attention to detail, documentation, and problem-solving skills.Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds and work in a data center environment.Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.Preferred QualificationsCompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+ certification.Familiarity with Linux or Windows Server environments.Exposure to cloud infrastructure, virtualization, or monitoringKnowledge of ticketing tools such as ServiceNow or Jira.Experience with asset management, inventory tracking, or technical documentation.Basic understanding of UPS, PDU, HVAC, and data center power and cooling systems.
