Posting DetailsPosition InformationJob TitleGrounds Worker (Part-time)Job DescriptionThe grounds worker reports to the Construction/Grounds/Gardens Supervisor and is responsible for supporting the maintenance, safety, and overall appearance of campus outdoor areas. The Grounds Worker helps ensure that the facilities and grounds remain clean, attractive, functional, and well-maintained throughout the year. Duties include routine grounds care as well as assisting with construction and maintenance projects as assigned by the supervisor.Work ScheduleMonday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., up to 28 hours per week.Full Time or Part TimePart TimeEssential Duties SummaryDuties Include:Weed-eat and edge sidewalks, curbs, flower beds, and building perimeters.Maintain landscaped areas, including mulching, spreading fertilizer, and lime.Pick up brush, limbs, and debris.Rake and remove leaves as needed.Keep grounds clean, neat, and visually appealing.Assist with general gardens/grounds maintenance.Safely operate landscaping equipment and tools.Follow all safety procedures and report hazards or needed repairsOther duties as assigned by the supervisor.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED/AHS equivalent preferredValid NC driver's licensePleasant, professional disposition and ability to interact and work with diverse groups of people.Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.Experience operating lawn care equipment preferred (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.).Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team Preferred QualificationsPrevious groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities experience.Basic knowledge of lawn and plant careExperience with operating tractors.Experience with minor maintenance or repair tasks.Physical DemandsPrimarily outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activityWalking for 8 hours per dayLifting to 50 lbsClimbing/stooping frequentlyStretching/reaching overheadTolerate temperature extremes both indoor and out.Physical labor and work outdoors in inclement weatherSalary GradeSalary$15 to $20 per hour based on experiencePosting Detail InformationPosting Number10500POpen Date02/27/2026Close DateOpen Until FilledYesDesired Start DateReview Start DateSpecial Instructions to ApplicantsApplicant must complete the Wilkes Community College online application process which includes a cover letter, a resume, and references (including a recent supervisor)The applicant must be able to successfully pass a background check.
