Bus Assistant
School Bus AideReports to: Coordinator of TransportationGeneral Definition of Work: Performs human support work providing assistance to the school bus driver in maintaining discipline; assisting students boarding and leaving the school bus, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the bus driver.Essential Functions:Assist with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned busAssists students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.Assists with the security of students on school buses and observes the special needs of individualsAssists the driver in maintaining adequate disciplineThis work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and bodily fluids; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).General knowledge of the transportation of students; ability to assist students with patience and understanding; good physical and mental health; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students and the general public.A high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate is required.Contract Period: 10 monthsFLSA Status: Non-ExemptAmherst County Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer
