As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and deployment of automated production equipment and robotic cells. You’ll own the mechanical design from concept to installation, delivering reliable motion-controlled systems using SolidWorks and engineering analysis. ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design and development of automated machinery and robotic cells from concept through build and field commissioningCreate, validate, and release 3D SolidWorks models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and specifications for fabrication and assemblyDesign motion-controlled equipment including motors, drives, actuators, gearboxes, bearings, and feedback devicesArchitect gantry systems, machine frames, enclosures, fixturing, end-of-arm tooling, and material handling interfacesPerform FEA and CFD analyses to validate performance and iterate designs for safety and reliabilityCollaborate with controls and electrical teams to integrate motion control, sensors, and safety interfacesOversee prototyping, lab testing, and field commissioning; lead root cause investigations and implement improvementsGenerate manufacturing-ready documentation, tolerancing, and assembly/installation instructions; support suppliers and manufacturing partnersEnsure compliance with standards and machinery safety directives (ISO, ANSI, CE); participate in FMEA and risk assessmentsManage project schedules and budgets for assigned machine design work; communicate status and risks to stakeholdersMentor and train junior engineers and CAD technicians; promote design best practices and continuous improvement
Key requirements7+ years of hands-on experience designing automated machinery in an industrial environmentProficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawing releaseExperience designing robotic cells, gantry machines, and motion-controlled equipmentHands-on experience with motion control components (servo motors, drives, controllers, encoders)Experience performing FEA and CFD analysesStrong knowledge of manufacturing methods, welding, tolerancing (GD&T), and materials selectionExperience preparing BOMs, procurement specs, and manufacturing drawingsExcellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaborationStrong written and verbal communication; ability to lead technical meetings and design reviewsWillingness to travel to supplier sites and customer locationsNice-to-have: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or pursuing licensure; FE exam (EIT) in progressproblem-solvingattention to detailcross-functional collaborationSolidWorksFEACFD
