Component Engineer

Position Overview EIZO Rugged Solutions is seeking a Component Engineer to lead component lifecycle management, obsolescence mitigation, and parts standardization efforts across our portfolio of rugged graphics cards, video capture products, embedded computing systems, and display solutions supporting defense, aerospace, and industrial customers. This role serves as the engineering focal point for component availability, DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages), supply chain risk management, and long-term product sustainment. The Component Engineer works closely with Hardware Engineering, FPGA Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Management, and key suppliers to ensure products remain manufacturable, supportable, and compliant throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate understands both the technical and business implications of component selection and can proactively identify risks before they impact programs, production schedules, or customers. Key Responsibilities Component Lifecycle Management Own lifecycle management of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical components used across all product lines. Monitor component health using lifecycle and market intelligence tools. Evaluate Product Change Notifications (PCNs), Product Discontinuance Notices (PDNs), and End-of-Life (EOL) notifications. Develop mitigation plans for obsolete, sole-source, and high-risk components. Lead Last Time Buy (LTB) analyses and recommendations. DMSMS & Sustainment Engineering Establish and maintain a formal DMSMS program supporting defense and long-life products. Assess component risks across active production and sustainment programs. Develop technology insertion, redesign, and alternate sourcing strategies. Support sustainment planning for products with service lives extending beyond commercial component availability. Coordinate with customers and program teams on obsolescence-related issues and mitigation plans. New Product Development Support Participate in architecture reviews and hardware design reviews to ensure component decisions support long-term availability and supportability. Assist design engineers in selecting components that balance performance, lifecycle, cost, and supply chain resilience. Promote standardization and reuse of components across product families. Identify opportunities to reduce BOM complexity and supply chain risk. Supplier & Supply Chain Collaboration Serve as the primary engineering interface for component-related supplier issues. Work closely with Procurement and Operations to address shortages, allocations, and sourcing challenges. Evaluate alternate manufacturers and second-source opportunities. Support supplier qualification activities and technical discussions. Product Compliance & Risk Management Support compliance activities related to: - RoHS - REACH - Conflict Minerals - DFARS requirements - Counterfeit Parts Prevention Maintain component documentation and traceability records. Support AS9100 processes related to component control and risk management. Engineering Operations Support Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) related to component changes and obsolescence mitigation. Provide component-related risk assessments to engineering leadership and program teams. Develop metrics and reporting related to component health, obsolescence exposure, and lifecycle risk. Support root cause investigations involving field returns and manufacturing issues when component-related causes are suspected. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline. 5+ years of experience in component engineering, hardware engineering, reliability engineering, sustainment engineering, or DMSMS management. Experience working with: - Electronic components - Embedded computing hardware - FPGA-based systems - Graphics processing hardware - High-reliability electronic systems Strong understanding of component lifecycles and supply chain dynamics. Experience evaluating PCNs, EOL notifications, and alternate component solutions. Strong analytical and risk management skills. Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams. U.S. Citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or ruggedized electronics products. Experience with NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Microchip, Xilinx/AMD, or similar semiconductor ecosystems. Familiarity with: o SiliconExpert o Z2Data o Microsoft Dynamics GP Experience supporting military programs and government customers. Knowledge of: o DMSMS best practices o Counterfeit avoidance programs o AS9100 environments Experience supporting products with 10+ year service life requirements.
