Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Grocery Manager is responsible for overseeing all grocery department operations, including inventory management, merchandising execution, labor planning, and associate supervision. This role ensures the department operates efficiently, remains fully stocked, and meets company standards for freshness, presentation, safety, and customer service.The Grocery Manager plays a key leadership role in driving sales, controlling shrink, developing associates, and maintaining strong operational execution within the largest department in the store.Key Responsibilities Department OperationsLead daily grocery department operations to meet sales, productivity, and service goalsEnsure accurate receiving, stocking, rotation, and product availabilityExecute planograms, promotional displays, seasonal sets, and resetsMaintain proper inventory levels, backroom organization, and in-stock conditionsPartner with Store Director and ASD on operational priorities and execution plans Inventory, Shrink & Ordering Manage ordering, forecasting, and inventory accuracyMonitor and control shrink, damages, and out-of-datesEnsure proper product rotation (FIFO) and freshness standardsMaintain accurate counts and follow inventory control processesInvestigate inventory discrepancies and take corrective action Leadership & Associate Development Hire, train, coach, and develop grocery clerks and leadsSchedule associates to meet operational needs and labor budgetsAssign tasks, follow up on execution, and hold associates accountableProvide ongoing feedback, recognition, and corrective action as neededSupport development of high-potential associates for future leadership roles Labor & Productivity Plan and manage department labor within budgeted guidelinesAdjust staffing and tasks based on sales trends and store trafficEnsure timekeeping accuracy and compliance with attendance policiesBalance service levels with productivity expectations Safety, Compliance & Standards Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace safety, and sanitation standardsMaintain clean, safe, and organized sales floor and backroom areasEnforce company policies, procedures, and safety practicesComplete required logs, audits, and documentation accurately and on time Customer Service Provide excellent customer service and support department associatesResolve customer concerns related to grocery products or serviceMaintain a visible leadership presence on the sales floorEnsure department readiness throughout operating hours Scope of Authority Manages grocery department associatesMakes day-to-day operational decisions within the departmentPartners with Store Director and ASD on staffing, performance, and disciplineDoes not independently finalize terminations without leadership approvalAbout UsAlbertsons Companies is at the forefront of the revolution in retail. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).
