Dispatcher @ Transportation Department(Internal employees: Set to your account to internal before applying at https://aisd.schoolspring.com/internaljobsettings)Primary Purpose:Dispatch drivers and buses. Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications. Answer, record, and route telephone calls. Record driver absentee calls and assign substitutes. Coordinate all functions to ensure effective daily operation.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school graduate or GEDHold a valid class B - CDL driver's license with "P" and "S" endorsements preferredTEEX Dispatch certification preferredSuccessfully complete TEA Bus Driver certification classSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Able to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addressesAble to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manualsAble to receive and give written and verbal instructionsAble to pass US Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical examExcellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Minimum of two (2) years' experience in school bus operations preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties:DispatchDispatch all routes daily and prepare daily personnel report.Receive driver and monitor absentee calls and assign reserve drivers to fill all vacancies OR drive route when needed.Assign reserve buses in accordance with hold list and check all keys.Monitor radio, logs and dispatch daily road calls and report information to supervisor weekly.Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls.Date stamp and distribute vehicle, route and student information.Respond to driver requests for assistance and dispatch tow trucks, emergency services, and additional equipment as needed.Compile, maintain, file all logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations.OtherMaintain regular and reliable attendance.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.Perform other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneEvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Manual Trades - Transportation Personnel.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; two-way radio; global positioning system (GPS); school bus; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisherPosture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions over, in and under vehiclesMotion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reachingLifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery, hard or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration and vehicle fumes; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; work early shiftMental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stressThis document describes the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.The full job description for this position is included within this job posting.
