First Article Inspector - Aerospace
The First Article Inspection (FAI) Specialist is responsible for validating that aerospace components and assemblies meet all engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements prior to full production. This role ensures compliance with AS9102 First Article Inspection standards and supports overall product quality, process validation, and audit readiness.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform First Article Inspections (FAIs) on aerospace parts and assemblies in accordance with AS9102 Rev. C requirementsCreate, review, and maintain FAI documentation (Form 1, 2, and 3) ensuring accuracy and completenessInterpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to verify product complianceConduct dimensional and visual inspections using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, optical comparators, height gauges, profilometers)Balloon drawings and develop compliance matrices based on customer specificationsVerify materials, special processes, and certifications meet aerospace and customer requirementsIdentify discrepancies, nonconformances, and drive root cause analysis with corrective actionsCollaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve issues and ensure product conformitySupport internal, customer, and regulatory audits and maintain proper documentation controlDevelop and maintain work instructions and inspection procedures for FAI processesPerform receiving, in-process, and final inspections as requiredQualifications3+ years of experience in aerospace quality inspection or manufacturing environmentStrong knowledge of AS9102, AS9100, and aerospace quality systemsProficiency in GD&T and blueprint reading (ASME Y14.5)Hands-on experience with CMM (manual and/or PC-DMIS) and inspection toolsFamiliarity with FAI reporting systems (e.g., Net-Inspect or similar)Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and problem-solving skillsEffective communication and ability to work cross-functionallyPreferred QualificationsExperience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (UT, FPI, MPI, etc.)Knowledge of special processes (heat treat, coatings, welding, etc.)Prior experience supporting customer or regulatory auditsFamiliarity with ERP/MRP systems and digital inspection recordsEqual Opportunity Employer / Disabled / Protected VeteransThe Know Your Rights poster is available here:https://www.eeoc.gov/sites/default/files/2023-06/22-088_EEOC_KnowYourRights6.12.pdfThe pay transparency policy is available here:https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ofccp/pdf/pay-transp_%20English_formattedESQA508c.pdfFor temporary assignments lasting 13 weeks or longer, AppleOne is pleased to offer major medical, dental, vision, 401k and any statutory sick pay where required.We are committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities.
