Minimum Salary: $67,696/Days: 185Primary Purpose:To assist students with visual impairments to achieve maximum independence through instruction in safe, efficient travel within the home, school, and community. Services also include instruction in compensatory skills, including daily living skills and recreation or leisure skills as related to orientation and mobility.Qualifications:Education/Certification:* Bachelor's Degree* Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) certificationSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to teach safe travel skills to visually impaired students at home, at school and in the communityValid driver's license and ability to drive from place to place within the school district and cityKnowledge of federal laws and state requirements related to visually impaired studentsAbility to function within school and community settingsBasic skills in technologyAbility to develop and implement staff trainingDemonstrated communication skills, both oral and writtenExperience:* Prior experience working with blind and/or visually impaired studentsResponsibilities and Duties:* Participate in the referral and assessment process of visually impaired students* Conduct evaluations of the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students.Areas of evaluation may include:o concept developmento spatial-positional awarenesso temporal conceptso environmental awarenesso body image and movemento orientation to the environmento techniques of effective and safe travelo use of low vision deviceso sensory developmento self-advocacyo personal safetyo efficient use of vision for travelParticipate on ARD/IEP committeesDevelop appropriate IEP/IFSP goals and objectives for orientation and mobilityRecommend any modifications to program or specialized services needed, based on orientation and mobility needsDevelop and implement an instructional plan based on identified student needsProvide consultation to school staff, peers, and community representativesOrder, distribute, and maintain canes and low vision devices related to travelTeam with vision teacher and other instructional and related services personnelConsult with and advise school personnel on the design and provision of safe, efficient environmentsDemonstrate the following core values: integrity, high expectations, commitment, respect, dedication to teamwork and passion for a student centered environmentDaily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities:NoneEquipment Used:* Office equipment: personal computer, printer, calculator, copier, fax machine* Personal motor vehicleWorking Conditions:Mental DemandsMaintain emotional control under stressWork with frequent interruptionsWork with frequent deadlinesPhysical Demands* Occasional: Lifting, carrying - moderate, 15-44 pounds* Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, balancing, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, and drivingEnvironmental Factors:Exposure to temperature extremes (heat, cold)Exposure to humidity extremesExposure to rainExposure to low or intense illuminationWork aloneWork as a member of a teamWork flexible hours, on occasion
