Category: TeachingJob Function: TeachingDepartment: Northview HighSummarySupervises and coordinates orchestra activities; Supports each participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, fosters an enhanced appreciation for music, and increases student musical capability through rehearsals and performances; Provides students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular orchestra activities; Ensures compliance with all state and District regulations and requirements; Participation in approved orchestra performances in the community are also an expectation of this positionEssential DutiesDirects middle-school orchestra, or high school orchestra, including concert ensembles, and jazz programPrepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differencesPlans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assignedCollaborates with Band, Chorus, and Drama teachers to provide students with integrated experiencesConducts on-going assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testingCreates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of studentsProvides for orchestra participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation and Solo and Ensemble eventsEnsures compliance with federal and state laws and Fulton Board of Education board policyWorks collaboratively with feeder school orchestra directors to recruit and retain students at the high schoolCompiles budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needsCoordinates fundraising activities and manages fundsOversees process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all orchestra equipmentAccompanies and supervises students on out-of-town tripsEnsures all necessary and reasonable precautions are taken to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesMaintains emotional control under stressCommunicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadershipAccounts for student attendance and punctualityFollows professional ethics in all work-related activitiesMaintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community membersPrepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absentFacilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communicationsAvoids behaviors which detract from staff moralePerforms other duties as assigned by the appropriate administratorRequired EducationBachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university in Music EducationCertification/LicensureValid Georgia Teaching Certification in applicable field required, or must be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Teaching CertificateExperience QualificationsMinimum 3 years of successful teaching experience required; Experience at the high school level preferredKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesAbility to collaborate with staff in an extremely active performing arts environment is essential Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program Ability to manage budget and personnel Classroom management skills Excellent organizational skills Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing Working ConditionsClassroom environment Physical DemandsFrequent lifting 5-10 lbs.
