Division: Aluminum Dynamics Overview:
Power Distribution Automation Engineer
Responsibilities:
Monitor power systems performance related to plant operations and make improvements in these areas.
Maintain backups of all software related to power distribution & water treatment operation and support systems.
Ensure work group safety and a safe work environment for the entire department relating to changes in process control.
Develop technicians troubleshooting skills and programming skills.
Keep the work group and department up to date on changes affecting mill operations.
Make program changes to protection relays and PLCs as necessary.
Maintain the automation hardware and programming interfaces.
Perform diagnostic testing on power systems equipment to determine trends toward equipment failures.
Monitor SCADA systems operation and provide monthly data to accounting for budgeting
Qualifications:
Understanding of electrical safety practices.
Understanding of electrical fundamentals.
Understanding of process control systems.
Understanding of power distribution systems.
Understanding of motor theory.
Understanding of variable frequency drives.
Understanding of industrial network and communication protocols.
Proven logical approach to troubleshooting.
Automation system programming capabilities.
Ability to teach and develop electrical technicians.
Ability to work in a team.
4-year Engineering Degree
Preferred
Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience with SEL and Siemens protection relays
Experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal
Experience with fault analysis
Experience with IEC 61850 communication protocol
