The academic appointment may be in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research and teaching effort. Incumbents in the HS series are expected to provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criterion for appointment in the Clinical X series. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.Applicants must have significant experience and/or fellowship training in surgical pathology, hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for, or currently hold, a medical license in the state of California. Subspecialty fellowship training and/or demonstrated practice experience in head and neck, transplant, medical renal, gynecologic, pulmonary, genitourinary, or cardiothoracic pathology is highly desirable. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent interpersonal and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be responsible for clinical services in surgical pathology, including on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.This position will serve the needs of UCI Health which include the 400+ bed state-of-the-art tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange, a new hospital and outpatient complex on the Irvine campus, and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.Founded in 1965, UCI is a top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report.
