Position Vacancy AnnouncementFlorida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Plant Operations and Maintenance Department/Utilities Section (HVAC Shop) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Maintenance Mechanic vacancy.ResponsibilitiesPerform inspections, repairs and operate various types of mechanical equipment and systems such as electric water pumps, steam pumps, manual and automated valves, air handling units, variable air volume units, variable frequency drives, strainers, separators, snubbers, air vents, pressure gauges, thermometers and thermometer wells, condensate receivers, steam traps, vacuum vents, steam, hot water and electric unit heaters, heat exchangers, dielectric unions, etc., as found in most piping systems; Perform repairs to insulation of various types; and repair pipes, valves and fittings in underground and above-ground vaults.Perform proper threading of black and galvanized pipe, up to 2-inch diameter; Assemble various piping systems in a true horizontal and vertical configuration, without leaks; Correctly use the proper pipe sealant for the specific application; Assist with pipe fabrication and welding pipping assemblies in an effort to maintain and/or enhance existing steam/chilled water distribution systems; Replacement and adjustment of valves, checking pressure regulators and reducing valves, switches, and electric controls for optimum performance of distribution system throughout campus infrastructure and facilities; Perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of a variety of steam plant equipment; and this may include steam/hot water boilers, steam and related components.Safely perform work utilizing all procedures for Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Personnel Protective Equipment, Chemical Hazards, etc. as designated for your safety and the safety of others; Perform repetitive and technical Preventive Maintenance on all mechanical equipment and systems, including filter changes, water analyses, oiling and greasing, etc. to properly maintain equipment; Perform "On-Call" as required by Departmental needs; and perform as an "Essential Personnel" during designated emergencies.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency and/or trade or vocational school graduate and four years of related experience in carpentry, locksmith, painting, life safety, electrical, plumbing and general building systems and service equipment installation, maintenance and repair.Recommended CompetenciesAbility to conduct inspections of buildings for repair needs of equipment;Ability to requisition and monitor the use of shop materials;Ability to maintain accurate records;Ability to ensure proper completion of work assignments;Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;Ability to bend, kneel and lift a minimum of 40 pounds;Ability to stand for a minimum of two (2) hours without a break; and,Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Anticipated Salary RangeThe salary for this position is $31,320 annually or $15 per hour.Licenses and CertificationsMust maintain a valid Driver's License.Pay PlanThis is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.Conditions of EmploymentSuccessful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education.
