To be considered, please apply as soon as possible.Definition: Day Camp Assistant has the responsibility for planning and implementing all activities of an age division of the Summer Camp, and the supervising of staff. Responsible for acting as the site supervisor for the Summer Camp and creating an engaging, ability-appropriate daily curriculum, ensuring the safety of campers, and building positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.Principal Duties: Duties may include: • Plan, schedule, organize and implement engaging activities and special camp events ona daily basis. • Supervise, provide direction, and evaluate Day Camp Leaders and volunteer staff.• Assist day camp staff with camp management and/or instruction on an as needed basis. • Build positive relationships with staff, campers, and parents. • Provide work schedules, on site management, and training to staff. • Ensure camper enrollment and sign in/sign out sheets. • Provide a weekly newsletter to day camp parents. • Work with Day Camp Director and Recreation Program Coordinator in planning activities.Identify and purchase camp supplies. Monitor inventory. • Budgeting, maintaining accurate records such as attendance, accident reports anddiscipline reports. • Evaluating the program. • Provide training for the individualized support for campers which may include behavioralsupport/coaching and/or base care support, including toileting and feeding. Perform the same individualized support for campers.• Logging and dispensing medicines in accordance with Medical Administration standards. • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances CityAttributes.Working Environment: Work will be primarily performed in an outdoor environment, with constant exposure to sun, dirt, sand and all types of weather conditions. Must have hearing and vision sufficient to survey the park area and recognize problems with campers, dangerous situations and hazards. Work requires bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, kneeling, carrying and lifting over 50 lbs. Work requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work requires the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions. Work will include exposure to noisy and stressful situations. Work entails working alone as well as working closely with others. Work will include support for camper basic personal care such as feeding and toileting.Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both written and verbal manner with participants, parents, co-workers and the general public. React quickly and correctly in emergency situations, make sound judgements, exercise conflict resolution and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful disciplinary situations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and ability to produce newsletters, flyers and other documents. Ability to work with diverse individuals, demonstrate group management skills, work under minimal supervision, and accurately complete a variety of forms, logs and reports. The camp director must have verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting, or 4-H; and the program director must have completed at least one of the following qualifications. A 4-year college degree with a major such as recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field.Two years of college training and 6 months of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer experience since attaining the age of 18, in the care of supervision of 4 or more children. Three years of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer experience since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of 4 or more children. The Program Director must complete 6 semester hours, 9 quarter hours, or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first 9 months of employment. Relevant/practical experience working with people with special needs desirable. Special Qualifications: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
