This role delivers high-quality, patient-centered care to help individuals achieve their optimal level of mobility, independence, and quality of life. Patient assessment and care planning involves assessing and interpreting evaluation results to develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians or per prescription. Therapeutic interventions include administering manual exercises, therapeutic activities, and functional training. The Physical Therapist instructs, encourages, and assists patients with non-manual exercises, ambulatory activities, daily living skills, and the proper use of assistive devices. Treatment administration involves providing hands-on treatments including massage, traction, hydrotherapy, moist packs, ultrasound, and other modalities. The Physical Therapist directs and supervises treatments performed by aides, technicians, and assistants. Progress monitoring and adjustments are made by evaluating treatment effectiveness and the fit/function of prosthetic/orthotic devices. The Physical Therapist observes patient progress, documents outcomes, and recommends modifications to optimize results. Discharge planning and continuity of care involve collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate discharge. The Physical Therapist designs home exercise programs, educates patients and caregivers, recommends assistive equipment, and arranges follow-up care. Documentation is maintained accurately and timely in patient and department records to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance. Safety and compliance focus on maintaining a safe, clean clinical environment by following infection control protocols and procedures. The Physical Therapist ensures equipment is properly maintained and functioning. Professional development includes staying current with advancements in physical therapy by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and pursuing continuing education. The Physical Therapist mentors and develops clinical staff through training and in-service programs.
