Mercer & Hole appoints Elizabeth Fothergill as Head of Tax Knowledge

Mercer & Hole has appointed Elizabeth (Liz) Fothergill as Director and Head of Tax Knowledge, a newly created role that reflects the firm’s continued investment in and expansion of its Tax and Private Client offering.Based in the firm’s London office, Liz will work closely with Mercer & Hole’s Private Client and Tax teams to support technical excellence, knowledge sharing and training, helping ensure clients continue to receive clear, practical and commercially focused advice.Liz began her career as a solicitor, qualifying in 1998, and spent nine years in the Private Client teams at Berwin Leighton Paisner and later Wedlake Bell. In 2007, she joined KPMG’s Family Office and Private Client Tax team, where she advised individuals, including both UK and non-UK residents, and trustees across a broad range of personal tax matters. In more recent years she was a senior member of the Family Office and Private Client central technical team.Her areas of expertise include residence and domicile, offshore trusts, Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. She has particular interest in the complexities of the UK tax system and in keeping pace with legislative developments, helping colleagues and clients understand forthcoming changes and their implications.Liz said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role at Mercer & Hole and look forward to working closely with the Private Client and wider Tax team, as well as the HR and training team, to support the firm’s approach to tax knowledge, training programmes and technical excellence.
