DescriptionJob Title: Therapeutic Recreation Technician (TRT)Reports To: Recreational Therapy DirectorPosition Type: Part-TimeFLSA Status: Non-ExemptSalary: $21.00/hourThe Therapeutic Recreation Technician (TRT) is responsible for regularly facilitating therapeutic recreational activities for students at Telos, including activities and groups that support healing, promote social engagement, and teach therapeutic skills.Duties & ResponsibilitiesFacilitate weekly therapeutic recreation activities and groups, including sports, art, exercise, team building, and outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc.Assist in carrying out the APIED process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation, Documentation).Maintain upkeep of activity equipment and suppliesDocument and track student progress and participation.Ensure safety and supervision of students throughout each activityCollaborate with Recreational Therapy Department members, members of the treatment team, and other coworkers to maintain innovative and engaging activities that support the therapeutic process.Foster an environment of support and trust, promoting personal growth and self-esteem.Encourage socialization and teamwork, helping students develop and practice interpersonal skills, communication, and problem-solving through group activities.RequirementsQualificationsTherapeutic Recreation Technician (TRT) Certificate (may be obtained upon hire)Previous experience working in a residential treatment center or similar settingPrevious experience working with youth and young adults.Strong communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques, and best practices.Ability to adapt activities to meet a variety of physical and cognitive abilities.Strong organizational and time management skills.Empathetic and patient demeanor, with a genuine passion for helping others.Ability to maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere in a residential treatment environment.Experience in outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, etc.Working ConditionsWork will be conducted in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.Must be physically fit and capable.Flexible hours may include evenings/weekends to accommodate client schedules and programming needs.
