Job Position: Special Education TeacherLocation: Boothbay Region High School or Boothbay Region Elementary School (Middle School)Date Position Available: 2026/2027 School YearWork Days: 5 days per week/8 hours per day; 175 school days + 7 in-service daysQualifications: Appropriate State of Maine Special Education Teacher (282) Endorsement through the State of Maine Department of Education.Position OverviewThe AOS98 Rocky Channels School system that serves Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Georgetown, Edgecomb and Southport is seeking an energetic, flexible, and collaborative special education teachers. We are seeking dynamic and passionate educators to join our team of Special Education Teachers in the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students with disabilities, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes growth and independence for all learners.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.Adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies to support differentiated instruction.Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student progress.Monitor and assess student performance and progress, adjusting teaching methods accordingly.Maintain accurate records of student progress and compliance with Maine DOE procedures and paperwork.Provide support in both a resource room setting and inclusive classroom settings.Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student engagement and promotes a pathway to student independence.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).Valid ME teaching certification in Special Education (282).Knowledge of IDEA and current best practices in special education.Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities (e.g., specific learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, neurodivergent disabilities including ADHD and Autism.Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with behavior management strategies Training in Orton Gillingham academic interventions.Training in de-escalation or crisis intervention (e.g., Safety Care, PBIS) is a plus.Experience completing paperwork using the Acuity IEP management system.Why Join Us?Supportive team of exceptional staff and resources to support students with a variety of needs.An inclusive education environment and innovation in teaching practices.Opportunities for professional development.Competitive salary and benefits package.This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and student-centered learning environment in the beautiful coastal district of AOS98.
