This includes fostering a positive team culture, ensuring student‑athlete safety and well‑being, teaching sport‑specific skills, supervising assistant coaches, and upholding the mission and values of Westview High School, the Beaverton School District and OSAA. The coach is expected to model high standards of professionalism, sportsmanship, and equity.Responsibilities Essential Responsibilities Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all levels of the soccer program (Varsity, JV, JV2 as applicable). Create a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate team culture that supports student‑athletes academically, socially, and athletically. Plan and implement effective practices that teach fundamental and advanced soccer skills, game strategy, and conditioning. Ensure the safety and supervision of all student‑athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities. Communicate regularly and effectively with athletes, families, athletic directors, and school staff. Collaborate with the Athletic Director to ensure compliance with OSAA, Metro League, and district policies. Oversee and mentor assistant coaches; ensure alignment with program philosophy and expectations. Monitor academic progress and eligibility of student‑athletes; support students in meeting school and district expectations. Model and teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for officials, opponents, and teammates. Coordinate equipment inventory, uniform distribution, and facility needs with the Athletic Department. Manage a budget and coordinate fundraising efforts. Develop off‑season conditioning, open field sessions, and summer opportunities within OSAA guidelines. Represent the program at required district, league, and coaches’ meetings. Promote the program within the school community and encourage participation from a diverse group of students. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Prior coaching experience or significant playing experience in soccer. Ability to work effectively with high school students from diverse backgrounds. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to supervise and evaluate assistant coaches. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive coaching practices. Completion of all OSAA‑required certifications, including: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching NFHS Concussion in Sports NFHS Heat Illness Prevention First Aid/CPR/AED certification OSAA Steroid and Performance‑Enhancing Substances training SafeSchools trainings required by BSD Preferred Previous head coaching experience at the high school or club level. Experience working in a school setting or with youth development programs. Knowledge of Metro League competition and OSAA regulations.
