Visiting Fellow

This visiting scholar will work in research with the supervisor on a project to measure phytotoxicity due to persistent herbicides in composts (35%) produced by commercial producers, municipalities and residents that are used as fertility sources for agriculture. The student will also design and fabricate a solar powered aerated static pile composting system to be installed at an urban farm in Mansfield, OH. Another task will be to develop a uniform database of 16S rDNA gene sequences from compost microbial communities characterized in previous studies. These projects will involve laboratory experiments, creating growing media, using analytical equipment, growing and evaluating plant growth, measuring properties of compost samples, helping to construct and test a food scrap co posting system and entering and analyzing scientific information in a database.
