Key Responsibilities60% - Nursing Process and Practice25% - Leadership and Management 5% - Professional Development 5% - Quality 5% - Nursing Research Department OverviewThe UC Davis Medical Center Radiology department consists of Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Neuro-Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine, Positive Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR). The Department has four Interventional Suites, three CT scanners, four Ultrasound procedure rooms, five Nuclear Medicine cameras, one PET Imaging unit, three MR scanners and eight Diagnostic radiology rooms.Nursing provides support in all areas of the department for the following; one-on-one nursing care during the administration of moderate sedation for interventional procedures, responding to emergency situations such as patients experiencing allergic responses to intravenous contrast administration, patients undergoing cardiac stress testing in Nuclear Medicine , PET and MR Imaging. Nursing also provides care to patients in MR and CT who require general anesthesia. The Department has 17 beds, 10 pre- and post –procedure recovery beds and seven holding beds for inpatients awaiting diagnostic exams.The Department performs approximately 450 interventional procedures per month, where nursing is required. Many of these are advanced procedures such as cerebral aneurysm coiling of arteriovenous malformations, Trans Jugular Intrahepatic Portostystemic Shunts (TIPS) , Radioembolization of Hepatic Malignancies, chemoembolization of hepatic malignancies, visceral and extremity arteriovenous malformations, trauma management, dialysis fistula care, central venous access, percutaneous biliary Interventions and CT guided radio frequency and microwave ablation of tumors. Overall the department performs, on average, 27,000 procedures and examinations per month.Radiology employs 23 RN's, three nurse practitioners, four MOSC's and two radiology assistants that are directly involved in patient care. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. and nursing is on-call for off hours, weekends and holidays.Department Specific Job ScopeAssistant Nurse Managers are registered nurses who are responsible for the operation of the nursing unit over a specific time period. The Assistant Nurse Manager must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills on which to base judgments and make decisions, organizing abilities to direct nursing tasks and operations, and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and the work of others. The Assistant Nurse Manager accepts the responsibility for, and is accountable for, his/her own nursing practice. The Assistant Nurse Manager also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development. Registered nurses must be knowledgeable and skillful in performing the Assistant Nurse Manager role. A registered nurse who assumes the role of Assistant Nurse Manager also assumes the responsibility inherent to the role. Three fundamental responsibilities for Assistant Nurse Manager include planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities.In addition, the Assistant Nurse Manager identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with American Nurses’ Association Standards of Practice and Professional Performance.
