Spike Crew Lead - On-Site Safety & Logistics
SUMMARYThe Spike Crew Supervisor is responsible for leading Corpsmembers during extended spike assignments, ensuring crew safety, logistics, quality control, and performance in remote and high-intensity environments. This role provides advanced leadership beyond the Crew Supervisor level, including spike planning, coordination, and accountability, and serves as the primary on-site authority during spike operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.Spike Leadership & OversightLead and supervise Corpsmembers, Drivers, and Crew Leads during extended spike assignmentsServe as the on-site authority for spike operations, safety, and conductConduct daily briefings, safety checks, and performance expectationsMonitor crew morale, work quality, and endurance throughout the spikeWork closely with sponsors on assigned projects.Planning & LogisticsPlan, organize, and execute spike logistics, including transportation, food, water, tools, gear, and camp setupEnsure safe food handling, water management, and camp operationsSafeguard equipment, tools, and vehicles during off-site assignmentsSafety, Risk & ComplianceEnforce FIELD/KSACC policies, Corpsmember code of conduct, and sponsor/state park rulesRespond to emergencies and high-stress situations appropriatelyComplete required pre-spike and post-spike administrative tasksMaintain accurate documentation, including daily logs, production logs, fleet logs, timesheets, and incident reportsCoaching & Quality ControlTrain and coach Corpsmembers and Drivers and mentor Crew Leads in advanced field skills and endurance-based workProvide immediate feedback and corrective action as neededEnsure high-quality execution of conservation projects during spikesSupervisory ScopeDirectly supervises Corpsmembers, Drivers, and Crew Leads during spike assignments (up to 14)Responsible for safety, logistics, quality, and discipline during spikesDoes not supervise Crew Supervisors or set department-wide policyDecision-Making AuthorityOperational authority during spike assignmentsMakes real-time decisions related to safety, logistics, and crew managementEscalates serious incidents or personnel matters to managementDuties:Direct and evaluate Corpsmembers, Drivers, and Crew LeadsEnvironmental restorationTrail building, maintenance, and restorationLandscaping and tree plantingInvasive species removalFence buildingWater conservation irrigationOutdoor worksite camping (spiking)Fire fuel reductionFire TrainingPhysical FitnessEDUCATIONHigh School Diploma is requiredAssociates Degree in either Urban Forestry, Environmental Conservation, Community Development or preferredEXPERIENCE REQUIREDMinimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory positionMinimum of one to two (1-2) years conservation corps or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredMANDATORY REQUIREMENTSValid California Driver LicenseMust have approval from Insurance Carrier to operate company vehicleMust have a spot free driving record for at least 2 yearsMust undergo and pass a physical examination and drug test.CERTIFICATIONSFirst Aid/CPR certificate, preferred, but not requiredFood Handler'certificateTRAVEL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to travel as needed/requiredTraveling up to 70% requiredMust be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time, up to eight (8) days at a timeLANGUAGE SKILLSBilingual preferred, but not requiredWORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Driving a KSACC vehicle to conduct work; driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions; working around machinery having moving parts and vehicles. Regular exposure to fumes (including fumes from vehicle and equipment operation), dust, gasses, and odors. Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, skin irritants, and electric shock.
