Part-Time Personal Care Aide

General ResponsibilitiesThe personal care nurse will work with students who have significant disabilities and need medical monitoring. The nurse will be in the classroom with the student to address all medical needs and assist with transitioning, transporting and any other task related to the student.Example Of DutiesResponsible for diapering/changing non-mobile student Feeding Transitioning Assist with bus transportation of wheelchair bound student Work with OT/PT to follow stretching/physical routine Responsible for professional, medical treatment of students. Responsible for early detection of physical problems Maintains student daily records related to health, eating and medical needs. Equipment UsedComputer, personal communication devices (ipad, iphone) and other equipment needed to develop and present an appropriate instructional program. Computer software including IEP management system, word processing, e-mail, Internet access software.Knowledge of or ability to learn student specific equipment such as, tube feeding system, lifts, wheelchair, stander or other equipment provided by OT/PT.Independent DecisionsIndependent decision-making expected, verifying course of action with building principal or district administrator as needed, based on IDEA, School Board Policy, district and/or building rules.Primary Working ContactsThe incumbent works closely with the building administrators, parents, students, community agencies, professional, and support personnel in the life skills classroom to implement goals and objectives and create access for students in an integrated setting.Preferred Days: Monday - Thursday (can be flexible)Preferred Hours: 8 to Noon (flexible)16 hours/weekSupervision Received and ExercisedThe incumbent works under the direct supervision of the campus principal.Unusual Working ConditionsRequires being outside in extremely cold temperatures when on bus and recess duty. May haveexposure to extreme acting out behavior. May need to assist with student physical needs including feeding, toileting and personal hygiene.EvaluationWritten evaluation annually or more frequently, in accordance with district policy, by the campus principal.Physical and Mental DemandsThe physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing and the ability to withstand extended periods of time (between 3-4 hours) without a break. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms, lift items weighing up to 50lbs and to transfer non-mobile students. The employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.Minimum QualificationsNon-certified aide considered
