CAD Designer-Automation Equipment
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and proficiency in various CAD software applications. This role involves creating precise technical drawings and models that adhere to industry standards and codes. The CAD Designer will collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure that designs meet project specifications and requirements.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
Design and Development:
Lead the design and development of custom fixtures, tooling, and test rigs for various automated manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, assembly, inspection).
Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Perform engineering calculations (e.g., load, deflection, tolerance stack-ups) to validate design integrity.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure fixture designs meet functional, safety, and production requirements
Process Optimization and Troubleshooting:
Identify areas where fixture design can improve production efficiency and quality.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment performance and integration.
Documentation and Standards:
Maintain and manage all design documents and fixture designs, including creating and updating documentation packages.
Ensure compliance with internal design standards and industry regulations (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, customer-specific requirements).
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
· 7+ years of experience in designing automated test and assembly equipment or similar systems
· Proven ability to design, develop, and implement automation fixtures, including understanding of manufacturing processes
· Experience leading engineering teams, mentoring junior engineers, and managing projects from concept to completion.
· Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations related to automated test and assembly equipment.
· Work under minimum design time constraints
· Multi-task among different projects at one time
· Communicate clear design intent through documentation (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Email)
· Communicate well with customers
· Self motivated to handle a project with minimum initial direction
· Willingness to work extra time to finish projects within timeline
