Municipal Worker I - Custodian This position is responsible for keeping the Cities' municipal facilities in a clean and sanitary order. These facilities include, but are not limited to, the Touber Building, Public Works Facility, Multi Use Facility, Police Headquarters, Steamplant, Annex, Scout Hut, Hot Springs Aquatic Center, and Chisholm Club House. This position ensures that the facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. Reports to the Facility Supervisor. This position does not supervise the work of others but may work closely with other staff to complete job duties. Clean bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, etc.), and other areas of the facilities. Maintain a proper inventory of cleaning products and request additional products be ordered in a timely fashion Continuously look for ways to streamline the cleaning process and make suggestions for how to better the cleanliness of the facility Troubleshoot plumbing or mechanical problems and advise the Facility Supervisor so they can be dealt with proactively Handle special maintenance projects as needed, including: deep cleaning, wall washing, carpet/upholstery shampooing, cleaning drains, etc. Position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work Occasionally clean other City Facilities when needed Assist the Facility Supervisor on special projects as needed Other duties as assigned Self-directed, detail-oriented professional who works efficiently and independently and also collaborates with co-workers Must be able to follow written and verbal directions, solve problems, handle multiple priorities, work under deadlines, and make sound decisions. Must have a general understanding of cleaning equipment such as power washers, floor buffers, and cleaning chemicals. Completion of high school level classes. Limited work experience is required; however, prior experience cleaning a public facility is preferred. Possess valid driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record Must be able to pass background check for access to various building locations Must be able to lift 50 pounds, have a willingness to use strong cleaning products, be able to work in heat, humidity, noise, heights and in or around water. The employee may be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration; is occasionally expected to work in high, and precarious places. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl. Part-time: Employee will accrue sick leave and receive an individual swim benefit at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center.
