Grit Blast & Shot Peen Technician
Job Summary: The Grit Blast and Shot Peen Technician is responsible for performing surface preparation and shot peening processes on aircraft engine components in accordance with approved technical data, OEM specifications, and company procedures. This role ensures proper surface treatment, corrosion removal, and fatigue life enhancement while maintaining strict compliance with FAA regulations, quality standards, and safety requirements.Duties & Responsibilities: Perform grit blasting to remove corrosion, coatings, and contaminants from engine components in accordance with approved procedures. Perform shot peening operations to improve fatigue strength and surface integrity per OEM specifications and process standards. Interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, and process specifications to determine proper blasting and peening parameters. Set up and operate grit blast and shot peen equipment, including media selection, pressure settings, coverage, and intensity controls. Verify component identification, traceability, and work scope prior to processing. Inspect components before and after processing to ensure surface condition and coverage meet requirements. Perform Almen strip testing and maintain process verification records when required. Document process parameters, batch information, and inspection results in accordance with company procedures. Ensure proper masking and protection of critical surfaces and features. Maintain media control, contamination prevention, and equipment cleanliness. Coordinate with Quality and Engineering to resolve discrepancies or process concerns. Handle and store parts to prevent damage, FOD, or contamination. Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD-free work area. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process consistency and efficiency Perform other duties as assigned.Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred. Minimum 1–2 years of experience in grit blasting, shot peening, surface treatment, or related industrial processes preferred. Aerospace, aviation, or precision manufacturing experience preferred. Familiarity with OEM process specifications and controlled surface treatment procedures preferred.Skills:Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to: Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and process specifications. Strong attention to detail and process control. Knowledge of surface preparation, coating removal, and fatigue enhancement processes. Ability to read and interpret work instructions and engineering drawings. Understanding of media control, contamination prevention, and masking techniques. Effective communication and teamwork skills.Physical Requirements & Work Environment: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. Work in an industrial environment with blasting media, compressed air systems, and mechanical equipment. Exposure to noise, dust, and airborne particulates; proper PPE required. Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection where applicable.
