Job Title: Safety DirectorLocation: Sacramento, California, United StatesType: Full TimeOur client is looking for an HSE & Security Leader to oversee and advance health, safety, environmental, and security initiatives at the operating company level. This role will be responsible for building and executing site‑specific programs that align with enterprise objectives, with a strong focus on incident prevention, compliance, and emergency preparedness.Role Overview:This position will serve as the primary driver of health, safety, environmental, and security strategy for the operation. The role partners closely with operational leadership to develop actionable plans, promote a zero‑incident culture, and ensure consistent compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements. Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement site‑level HSE and security strategies aligned with corporate objectivesPartner with operations leadership to reduce workplace injuries, safety incidents, and environmental risksCommunicate strategy, performance, and risk mitigation plans to senior leadershipSupport leaders in executing safety programs and driving accountabilityDefine and monitor performance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunitiesDesign and deliver training programs to build safety competency across leadership and workforceConduct audits and assessments to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulationsEstablish meaningful HSE goals for managers, supervisors, and frontline teamsLead hazard identification, risk assessments, and corrective action planningOversee incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up actionsProvide leadership training on investigation techniques and prevention strategiesAct as liaison with regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local levelsCoordinate annual HSE training plans across the organizationPartner cross‑functionally to strengthen safety, environmental, and compliance initiativesSupport permitting, reporting, and documentation obligations for environmental and safety programsDrive measurable reductions in incident frequency, severity, and related costsChampion a strong safety culture through engagement, communication, and leadership visibilitySupport emergency response planning and crisis management effortsMonitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on compliance impactsImplement early return‑to‑work and injury management programsLead, develop, and manage HSE staff, including performance management and employee engagement Qualifications:EducationBachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Experience5–7 years of hands‑on safety and environmental leadership experience in logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or transportation environmentsStrong background in occupational safety, transportation safety, and environmental complianceCertificationsSafety certification (CSP or equivalent) preferred or in progressAdditional safety or environmental credentials are a plusValid driver’s license required Skills & Capabilities:Proven ability to lead safety programs and deliver measurable resultsStrong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skillsAbility to influence leaders and drive behavioral changeExcellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skillsStrong people leadership, coaching, and employee engagement abilitiesComfortable working with data, reporting tools, and enterprise systemsAbility to manage time, priorities, and resources independentlyConsistent demonstration of leadership, professionalism, and change management skills
