Veteran Peer to Peer Specialist

Job Title: Peer to Peer Specialist (Seneca County) Must be a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces, or the spouse of same for consideration for this position. Must be a resident of Seneca County, NY or willing to relocate to Seneca County before beginning employment. This position serves as a member of the VOSC Peer to Peer Support team, under the auspices of the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program and Seneca County. You will be responsible for serving Veterans within an assigned geographical area (Seneca County, NY), with occasional trips to other geographical areas for training or support as needed. You will plan and execute a wide variety of peer support events in compliance with VOSC Peer Support Program guidelines, and collect and report data, and results for same. Acting as the Agency representative in the local service area, you will coordinate closely with the Seneca County Veterans Services Agency and other local agencies and programs to help ensure that Veterans in Seneca County have access to and knowledge of as many resources as possible. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer 100% paid individual health insurance along with vision and dental coverage, nine paid holidays, mileage reimbursement, three weeks of PTO, and one week of sick leave per year. This position has a flexible schedule that you will largely set yourself based on the needs of your area, but does require planning events based on times that are best for Veterans – which means the normal work week for this position is Tuesday through Saturday. If you are not willing to work based on when the most people are available (e.g. - evenings, Saturdays) then this position is not suitable for you. Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills: · Enthusiastic about the Veterans One-stop Center and the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Program’s missions, and the position’s role in achieving that mission · Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills · Significant military cultural competency · Ability to professionally engage with Veterans, current service members, military family members, volunteers, and the general public · Ability to plan and participate in Peer to Peer Events throughout your geographic coverage area, in accordance with Agency and grant requirements. The ability to think outside the box and be creative when coming up with potential new events is a huge plus. · Complete training and apply for a provisional NYS Certified Peer Support Specialist certificate within the first 45 days of employment, and ensure that hours are being logged and requirements completed for working towards your permanent certification · Ability to effectively utilize MS Office (including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint) and other computer equipment is critical · Access to reliable transportation · Availability to work nights/weekends/holidays as needed · Complete mandatory background check and training Responsibilities: · Plan and develop events to fit the age and interest levels of a wide variety of Veterans to meet the requirements and goals of the program · Collaborate with Veteran participants regarding ideas for new programming events based on Veteran feedback, be open to adding or changing events based on feedback · Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical data reports · Work closely as a team with the VOSC Peer Support Program and ensure constant communication and coordination regarding your geographical area of responsibility · Access to reliable transportation is a must, this position is primarily remote / mobile and will require constant travel within your geographical area – mileage reimbursement is provided · Will occasionally require travel to our main location in Buffalo for training, primarily within the first 90 days · Will occasionally require travel to the geographical areas covered by other teams for purposes of providing mutual support, or in the event of a coverage lapse (Vacation, sickness, etc.) or for attendance at events outside of your normal geographic area Job Type: Full-time Pay: $18.27 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Employee assistance program Flexible schedule Flexible spending account Health insurance Health savings account Mileage reimbursement Paid time off Referral program Vision insurance Schedule: Evenings as needed Weekends as needed Application Question(s): Do you have a valid NYS Driver's License and access to reliable transportation?
