JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to work directly with classroom teachers to improve delivery of instruction that results in the improvement of student outcomes/learning. This leadership position serves as a collaborator and liaison between campus and district staff to implement district instructional initiatives, provide job-embedded professional development, and accomplish specific district and campus goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Specialist
Meets with individual teachers and teams on an ongoing basis to collaboratively plan analyze, personalize, design, apply, and evaluate student learning.
Supports teachers in developing and implementing classroom management techniques and strategies.
Supports teacher's development by co-teaching, modeling, and observing and providing feedback.
Develops teachers' capacity to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
Builds teachers' capacity to utilize a variety of data to make informed decisions about instructional practices and high-impact strategies.
Analyze student data to drive instructional planning.
Models how to use the district curriculum/unit plans to plan instruction and common assessments for all learners through the Backwards by Design method.
Engages teachers in the coaching cycle to achieve personalized learning goals.
Supports teachers in implementing the district curriculum/unit plans and LCISD Instructional Handbook with fidelity.
Deepens teachers understanding of content standards, district curriculum/unit plans and resources available for teaching
Shares with campus staff research, best practices, resources, instructional technology tools, and/or emerging trends aligned with district curriculum and beliefs.
Develops teachers' understanding of vertical alignment of curriculum.
School and District Leader
Model attitudes, behaviors, and actions that are aligned to the district and campus vision.
Attends and actively participates in scheduled district instructional coach meetings and/or trainings and shares the learning with campus.
Develops positive working relationships with district and campus staff, honoring confidentiality as appropriate.
Develops capacity of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to function effectively to improve student learning.
Collaborates regularly with campus leadership
Learning Facilitator
Provides job-embedded professional learning for individual teachers and collaborative teams that positively impacts student achievement.
Serves as a mentor for teachers.
Supports teachers in transferring and synthesizing alternatives or refinements to current practices
Catalyst for Continuous Learning and Growth
Influences change for improvement by introducing new ideas, making observations, questioning current practices, and exploring alternatives.
Conducts non-evaluative observations and walk-throughs that provide teachers with constructive feedback.
Exhibits a growth mind set by modeling continuous learning to stay current in the best practices of teaching and to be a thought-leader on the campus.
Other
Engage school and community in academic activities - family engagement activities.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom experience
Leadership experience (such as campus lead teacher, team leader, department chair, curriculum writer, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate as required for assignment
Master's degree preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with and lead adult learners
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Effective interpersonal skills (such as building rapport, actively listening, and giving/receiving feedback)
In-depth knowledge of instructional practices, effective classroom management, and student engagement
Experience with developing and delivering professional learning
Ability to disaggregate data, identify core issues, and assist with implementation
Strong organizational skills
Collaborate with other school leaders regarding student academic needs
Technological proficiency with productivity, the learning management system, and digital tools to maximize student learning
OTHER INFORMATION
Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; move small stacks to textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
