Java Software Engineer

About the CompanyOperAxis is partnering with a leading global financial services organization to fill multiple Java Developer openings across key U.S. markets. These are fully onsite W2 contract roles centered on backend development using Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS.About the RoleOpenings exist in Columbus, Ohio (both local and relocation supported variants), Wilmington, Delaware (70 percent Java Spring AWS and 30 percent React frontend support), and Houston, Texas (senior level with system design ownership and relocation support). All roles require strong ownership of scalable services, secure REST APIs, cloud deployment, and production stability within a regulated financial environment. This is a pure W2 contract position. C2C is not available. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship (U.S. Citizen, Green Card holder, or TN visa eligible for Canadian applicants only). Local candidates must be available for onsite interview. Relocation candidates must be willing to relocate.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Java and Spring Framework, Spring Boot.Build secure RESTful APIs and integrate with enterprise data sources and internal platforms.Deploy, configure, and support applications on AWS cloud infrastructure.Provide React frontend support for selected modules (approximately 30 percent of effort) on the Wilmington role.Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and continuous integration practices.Write unit and integration tests; perform root cause analysis and resolve production issues efficiently with minimal downtime.Follow secure coding standards and maintain compliance with financial services regulations.Contribute to system design discussions, performance optimization, and technical mentorship (especially on the Houston senior role).Collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver high quality, production ready solutions.Qualifications6+ years of professional Java development experience (9+ years preferred for Houston).Strong hands on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and building microservices.Solid production experience deploying and supporting applications on AWS.Proven ability to design and implement secure RESTful APIs.Strong SQL and relational database skills.Excellent Git, testing, and CI/CD practices.Ability to work fully onsite and communicate effectively in Agile teams.U.S. work authorization without sponsorship requirement.Preferred SkillsExperience in financial services or other highly regulated industries.Exposure to React or modern frontend frameworks (required for Wilmington).System design and technical leadership experience (especially Houston).Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS/EKS).Prior experience mentoring junior developers.Pay range and compensation packageStandard W2 contractor benefits package available through OperAxis (details provided upon engagement).Equal Opportunity StatementOperAxis is committed to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
