The successful candidate will join a growing science program committed to impartiality-minded teaching, hands-on learning, and community engagement.We seek a dynamic educator and scholar with a passion for undergraduate instruction and mentorship, who can teach microbiology and immunology curriculum and contribute to life science-related courses and research opportunities. Candidates should be able to teach lower-division and upper-division microbiology and immunology courses and labs.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach 24 semester credits per academic year (typically 3 courses with 1 course release for service and research activities per semester), including but not limited to lecture and lab courses in microbiology, virology, immunology, infectious diseases, cancer biology, and general biology.Develop and deliver high-quality, instruction to a multicultural student population, including first-generation college students and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.Participate in curriculum development, academic advising, and mentoring of undergraduate students.Engage in scholarly activities, which may include discipline-based education research with undergraduates, or community-engaged scholarship.Contribute to service at the division, campus, and/or system level, including committee participation and program assessment.Collaborate with faculty and staff in interdisciplinary and cross-campus initiatives.Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Life Sciences, Biology or closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates will be considered, but the Ph.D must be conferred prior to the date of appointment).Demonstrated ability or potential to teach microbiology and biology courses effectively at the undergraduate level.Evidence of or potential for engaging undergraduates in research, mentorship, or high-impact teaching practices.Commitment to serving a varied student body and promoting all-encompassing excellence in teaching and scholarship.Desirable Qualifications:Experience teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution or similar setting.Experience developing and teaching laboratory courses.Interest in curriculum innovation and the use of evidence-based instructional practices.Experience mentoring undergraduates in research, especially students from underserved backgrounds.Background or interest in interdisciplinary teaching, such as the integration of microbiology with environmental science, health sciences, or sustainable food systems.Postdoctoral experience in basic or clinical immunology, bacterial ecology, bacteria-viral infections, microbial systems, environmental microbiology, infectious disease, or cancer research.Familiarity with Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander cultures or commitment to place-based and culturally sustaining pedagogy.To Apply:Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and upload the required documents.
