Interim CFO Controller

Title: Interim CFO/ControllerType: ContractLength: 3-6 monthsCompensation: $55 – $70 / hourLocation: Alexandria, VABenefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, vision and 401k.A well-established organization in Northern Virginia is seeking an experienced Interim Chief Financial Officer / Controller to provide financial leadership during a transitional period. This individual will oversee the day-to-day finance and accounting function, lead a small team, and ensure critical financial operations continue without disruption while supporting key strategic initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and oversight for all finance and accounting operations, ensuring continuity during an executive transition.Lead the completion of the annual operating budget and long-range financial planning process.Manage fiscal year-end close activities and coordinate required financial reporting with external stakeholders.Prepare and present monthly financial statements and reporting packages for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.Oversee the month-end close process, general ledger, financial reporting, and internal accounting operations.Partner with external agencies and organizational leadership on financial matters, reporting requirements, and budget initiatives.Support procurement and RFP-related financial activities as needed.Mentor and support payroll operations while ensuring continuity across finance functions.Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Minimum of 8 years of progressive, hands-on finance and accounting experience.Prior leadership experience managing accounting and finance teams.Demonstrated experience overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, month-end close, and year-end financial activities.Strong communication, relationship management, and customer service skills.Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment while collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsExperience working in a unionized or blue-collar workforce environment.Experience with payroll and HRIS systems.Leadership ResponsibilitiesThis position will oversee a finance team responsible for:Accounting operationsPayroll administrationFinancial analysisFiscal support functionsIdeal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader who can quickly assess priorities, maintain day-to-day operations, and build strong working relationships across the organization.
