Director, Managing Counsel – Elevate Creative
Elevate is seeking an experienced and strategic attorney to serve as the Director, Managing Counsel for the Elevate Creative business. Recent acquisitions of Downstream and GA Group have created a globally integrated design group that dissolves the traditional boundaries between interior architecture, immersive technology, and experiential design.
Responsibilities
Manage the day‑to‑day legal and compliance functions for Elevate Creative worldwide.
Lead the legal integration of GA Group and Downstream into the larger Elevate Creative organization, working with IT, Finance, Marketing, HR and Business Development.
Draft, review and negotiate a wide array of client contracts, and create standardized contract forms for the various disciplines (environmental design, digital interactive environments, interior design).
Develop and refine efficient internal processes for contract requests, vendor onboarding, vendor management and procurement worldwide.
Oversee business licensing, corporate registrations and other ongoing compliance requirements for all international subsidiaries.
Partner with Human Resources on employee relations matters and employment‑law compliance for the global workforce.
Assess legal and operational risks, providing clear, actionable guidance to the President of Elevate Creative and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
A. Education and/or Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree and J.D. from an accredited institution.
Active and in good standing in one U.S. State Bar.
Necessary/Desired Experience:
5+ years of experience in a private law firm or in‑house role, with direct expertise in creative design, environmental design, graphic design, interior design, architectural design and/or construction.
Deep familiarity with AIA, RIBA form documents and other complex contracts used on large‑scale architecture, design and construction projects.
Experience working in, or with, multi‑national firms, including managing legal functions in the UK/EU, EMEA and the United States.
Preference for those with experience in professional services, sports and entertainment industries, or expertise in designing digital interactive environments, sales preview centers, and executive business centers.
B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Exceptional contract drafting and negotiating skills, with the ability to translate complex legal risks into actionable business insights.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving and cross‑functional project management skills, especially for post‑merger integration.
Ability to manage change effectively, deal well with ambiguity and adapt quickly.
Team‑first mentality and willingness to collaborate across a large global organization.
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
Position based at Elevate Creative’s Nashville, TN studio, hybrid in‑office/remote with a minimum of three days in office per week.
Alternative candidate accepted in Charlotte, NC on a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week.
Candidates outside these locations may be considered but would need to relocate; relocation assistance may be available.
Travel Requirements: Travel may be required to support global integration efforts, especially to studios in London, Portland and Amsterdam.
Physical Demands: Requires extended periods of sitting and use of computer or phone.
