WPAOG is both the alumni association and foundation for the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. Our vision is to ensure the Long Gray Line remains the most highly connected alumni body in the world. USMA is renowned as the world's preeminent leadership development institution. The student body, or Corps of Cadets, numbers 4,400, and each year approximately 1,000 cadets graduate and are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.Reporting to the Vice President of Development and as a key member of the Development Office's ten-member management team, the Director of Major & Leadership Gifts (hereby referred to as Director) is responsible for the WPAOG's fund raising program aimed at individual donors with the capability of making gifts of $250,000 or more. The Director is charged with ensuring that the nine-member Major Giving team reaches its annual cash and pledge targets. The Director sets the team's overall objectives and priorities as well as individual goals for each team member using a clearly defined performance matrix. The Director regularly reports on the team's progress toward its established goals. The Director supervises three Major Gifts Officers (MGOs) and five Leadership Gift Officers (LGOs) in the development and execution of cultivation and solicitation strategies. Solicited gifts and pledges must match a donor's interests and giving ability, while fulfilling the needs of either the USMA or the WPAOG. The Director is also responsible for supervising a Major Gifts Senior Development Manager tasked with providing professional support to the Director and members of the Major Giving team.Strong organizational and analytical abilities, time management, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The incumbent must be goal-oriented and thrive in a competitive yet collaborative and collegial environment, while demonstrating a strong leadership presence and the ability to influence and engage teammates and senior stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of fundraising strategies, particularly in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of mid-level and high-level donors, though relevant and transferable skills in a related field will also be considered.A Bachelor's Degree is required, and Graduate Degree and Certified Fundraising Executive credential (CFRE) preferred. Greater than eight years of experience in fundraising and familiarity with USMA and the Army is strongly preferred. We offer excellent benefits and a pleasant working environment.
