The surgical critical care team manages post-operative patients having undergone emergency or highly complex surgical procedures and now requiring continuous, intensive monitoring and interventions. The trauma critical care team manages patients with multisystem traumatic injuries from many different mechanisms. Many patients in the STICU have multi-system conditions requiring our critical care nurses to be highly competent and skilled in assessing and managing care while maintaining a high level of compassion. Typical nurse:patient ratios are 1:2 with changes based on patient acuity.
