Head Varsity Football Coach

JOB DESCRIPTIONReports to: Superintendent/Athletic DirectorWage/Hour Status: ExemptLength of Contract: 240 daysPRIMARY PURPOSE:Carries out the mission of the school as the Head Football Coach responsible for all aspects of the football program while exhibiting strong leadership with a focus on player and staff development. The coach must value sportsmanship, integrity and character development as well as community relations. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills. The candidate must demonstrate good working knowledge of diverse schemes and/or systems and be adept in coaching the skills and techniques necessary to play competitive high school football in the State of Arkansas.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Arkansas Teaching LicenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal)Exceptional organization, time management and prioritization skillsAbility to communicate effectively with players, colleagues, and parentsSkilled teacher of fundamentals, strategy, sportsmanship, and characterAdaptability and flexibility in resolving common challenges and/or coaching dilemmasAdherence to values mission including honesty, responsibility, respect and kindnessKnowledgeable in skills and trends in footballExperience:Previous experience as head varsity coach or comparable experience preferred.EVALUATION:Evaluated annuallyMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Schedule practices and games for the football programSchedule away game transportationAssist the Athletic Director in securing officials for all home football gamesDevelop season-long and individual game plansOversee football specific strength and conditioning programOrganize, schedule and oversee off-season programs and summer camps within the structure of the overall football programMake recommendations regarding the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.Regularly direct, supervise, and evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.Emphasize the importance of academic excellence and assist in monitoring and maintaining high academic standards for members of the football program.Work cooperatively with the head coaches of other sports in order to operate a well-balanced athletic departmentEnsure consistency and relative uniformity in the implementation of and execution of offensive and defensive schemes for all team levels 7-12Advocate on behalf of deserving players eligible for postseason awards/accolades and collegiate scholarshipsAttend district and state coaches meetings as requiredSupervise and mentor assistant coaches in a manner commensurate with athletic department policy and visionEvaluate assistant coachesOversee the SIP programWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands:Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); maintain emotional control under stress; ability to organize practice, games, travel, etc.Physical Demands:Regular state-wide travel; occasional out-of-state travel; must be able to perform field maintenance, must be able to move around outside for sustained periods of times sometimes during very hot or very cold weather conditions
