General SummaryResponsible to ensure top quality plants are grown in timely manner for retail distribution.Essential ResponsibilitiesSupervision of plant growing, plant nutrition and protection, and pest and disease control.Regular walking of the greenhouses to assess plant quality and care and adherence to shipping scheduleAssist with maintenance of systems controlling the greenhouse environment, including HVAC and irrigation.Supervision and training of staff, planning, control of inventory and ordering of seeds and plants, budgeting, creating progress reports, occasional interaction with customers and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Experience in greenhouse maintenance and management is preferred, to include advanced understanding of greenhouse functioning and design, equipment, common pest and disease problems (identification, prevention, and remedies), plant nutrition, irrigation, supplemental lighting, shade screens, etc.At times growers will be required to perform the duties such as watering and spraying.Assist with and/or perform additional duties as required by operating needs of the company or as directed by management.Must be willing to work overtime including weekends as necessary.Skills/QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience: 3+ years of greenhouse/plant growing experience. Horticultural education preferred, but equivalent experience is satisfactory.Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.Licenses and/or Certificates: Valid driver’s license and necessary permits for the application of chemicals needed to maintaining quality plants.Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines of various federal or state Department of Agriculture.Knowledge of Federal and State pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer regulations and guidelines.Ability to make decisions recognizing established precedents and practices and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to take and follow directions and ability to work with little to no supervision.Working EnvironmentWorking Conditions: Both indoor and outside work environments. Frequently exposed too extreme cold and hot temperatures, wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
