Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.Pay: $15.00/hr.Illinois CancerCare offers the following benefits for temporary employees, subject to eligibility requirements: 401(k) retirement plan, Employee Assistance Program; & paid leave accrual (if applicable).Benefits:Gain practical experience in a professional environment.Develop skills relevant to your field of study.Network with professionals and other interns.Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced team members.ResponsibilitiesWhat You'll DoAssist with value-based data entry and abstraction.Assist with patient portal items, including routing messages and basic support tasks.Perform routine clerical and documentation support related to informatics initiatives.Other clerical duties as assigned.QualificationsWhat We're Looking ForHigh school or college student.Currently pursuing or general interest in computer science, data science, information technology, healthcare informatics, or a related field.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.Proficient computer skillsHighly organized. Attention to detail and accuracy is required.Special Physical Requirements:Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires the ability to distinguish and transcribe letters and numbers without transposition.Requires the use of office equipment such as computer, scanner, telephone, copier, printer, fax machine. Ability to work on a desktop computer for extended periods of time.May require working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.Safety Considerations/Typical Working Conditions:Work is performed in a medical office. There may be some interaction with Illinois CancerCare staff and physicians, as well as contact with non-Illinois CancerCare individuals.The employee has limited exposure to toxic substance and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such.The employee may be exposed to communicable diseases and other conditions common to the clinical environment.Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
