Position Type:High School Teaching/ELA/ELLDate Posted:2/17/2026Location:Alamosa High SchoolDate Available:08/01/2026Closing Date:Until filledTitle: AHS EL TeacherDefinition: The EL teacher will work closely with EL students, staff, and families to ensure high quality academic instruction, accommodations, assessments, and events.Qualifications:Culturally/Linguistically Diverse endorsement, or license to teach English Language LearnersSpeak, Write, Read SpanishTechnology savvyReports to: High School Principal, Administration & Communicates with K-12 EL TeachersEvaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the board's policy and procedures for evaluation of certified/licensed staff.Professional/Ethical Responsibilities:Train for and administer the WIDA ACCESS 2.0 & Colorado ScreenerDocumentation of designation & redesignation for October Count and CDECreate EL Plans and share with AHS staffWrite EL Parent Letters of acceptance of the program & meet with parents to signImplement a research based curriculum to EL students in a classroom setting with direct instruction.Know and apply CDE Guidelines for ELsKnow federal and state laws that pertain to EL studentsRequirements, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBe able to communicate with parents, content area teachers, and the counseling department.Know WIDA language standards and the four domains of language proficiency and implementation.Collaborate with the AHS English Department and apply State/National Standards to instructionCollaborate with content area teachers on accommodations.Collaborate & coordinate class schedules with the counseling departmentCollaborate with EL paraprofessionalConnect students & families to community services and higher education opportunitiesOrganize family eventsKnowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.Physical and Mental Demands, Work HazardsWorks in standard office and school building environments.Note: Also see the Summary of Physical, Sensory and Environmental Requirements Needed to Perform Essential Functions for this position.Certification/License:Colorado State Certification as an English Education Teacher.Must have endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education K-12 Education:Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.Masters Degree in related area preferred.
