Security Engineer
Remediation Vulnerability Engineerhybrid – 3 days onsite in Oakland (near BART station).This is a 12+ month contractPosition SummaryCoordinate with network, systems, and cloud teams as needed.Partner with IT Client Services engineering teams to implement and maintain endpoint security controls, and understand the configuration, packaging, deployment, and maintenance of devices.Investigate and respond to security incidents, vulnerabilities, and threats affecting infrastructure and services.Provide backup support to the Unit Information Security Lead (UISL).Coordinate incident response activities and contribute to service restoration efforts; participate in on-call support as required.Collaborate with IT asset management and software teams to maintain accurate asset inventory and lifecycle management.Ensure timely and high-quality resolution of service requests and incidents through coordination with IT Client Services teams.Drive continuous improvement in IT service delivery, operational processes, and security posture.Support and secure artificial intelligence systems and continuously evolving agentic workflows, ensuring reliable integration, compliance with security standards, and alignment with organizational IT infrastructure.ExperienceMinimum 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including:IT infrastructure (network, systems, cloud, or endpoint environments)Cross-functional technical collaborationInformation security operationsSkills and AbilitiesWork with tools such as BigFix, Rapid7, and CrowdStrike to identify and address vulnerabilities.Track down end users, provide remediation steps for unmanaged applications, and ensure vulnerabilities are resolved.Push out bug fixes and patches to resolve issues and improve security posture.Take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion independently.Experience with vulnerability remediation processes and user interaction is essentialStrong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure (networking, systems, cloud platforms, endpoints)Experience with IT security tools and frameworks in complex environmentsStrong troubleshooting and analytical skills across infrastructure and security domainsExcellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholdersEducationBachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field, or equivalent experiencePreferred Qualificationssecurity certificationExperience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (NIST, ISO, UC policies)
