PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE-CDC CLINIC

Purpose of JobThe purpose of this position is to provide high level nursing care to patient/clients seeking education, screening, testing, and treatment of sexually transmitted infectionsEssential FunctionsEssential functions the position will be responsible for include the following:Provide education and counseling related to sexually transmitted infections such as Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, HIV, HPV and HSVPerform physical assessments per nursing protocol; thorough understanding of "normal" and deviations from "normal"Collect lab specimens per nursing protocol including but not limited to: blood, urine, compartment swabsProvide STI medications and/or immunizations as covered by Public Health Nursing Protocol or by physician orderEnsure standards of Public Health Nursing practice are met with each patientAssess barriers to care for each patient including factors that may influence medication adherenceNavigate referral process for continuation of care in HCV, HIV, HARM, Substance Use Disorder, Mental Health services, etc.Additional Job FunctionsRespond to and report immediately if called upon by local regional or central office supervisors as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor's OfficeEnsure regular and punctual attendance during scheduled work hoursPerform other duties as requiredMinimum Training & QualificationsTraining and qualifications for the position include the following:Graduate of accredited Nursing ProgramCurrent and unencumbered license as a Registered NurseMinimum of two (2) years' related experienceEquivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be considered to qualify for the positionSpecialized KnowledgeMust be trained and certified in cardio-pulminary resuscitation (CPR) at hire and maintain certification post-hireCompetenciesThe incumbent is required to possess the following competencies:Ability to perform in a position of significant complexityAbility to regularly solve difficult problems and occasionally for solving complex problemsProficient in use of PCs, tablets, smartphones and other electronic devicesAbility to engage in substantial communication with other Knox County Government employees and the publicWorking knowledge of Public Health Core Competencies and Public Health 3.0Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of productsAbility to navigate and use electronic health records and other datamanagement systems such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Ability to appropriately use a variety of medical devicesAbility to use tact to resolve issuesPhysical RequirementsThis position requires the following physical abilities:Occasional periods of moderate effort or frequent periods of light physical activity are requiredOccupational HazardsThe following occupational hazard exists:Risk of exposure to infectious agents with the possibility of becoming illKnox County Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
