Principal Security Engineer
Overview
As a Principal Security Engineer on SPARC, you will shape the security of AI-driven hardware from silicon to cloud deployment. You’ll partner with cross‑team security and product groups to defend Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and Confidential Computing initiatives. You’ll tackle secure firmware design, memory protection, and side-channel mitigations while advancing hardware root of trust and cryptographic techniques. This role offers impact across manufacturing, supply chain security, and large-scale cloud platforms within a mission‑driven organization.
ResponsibilitiesLead security initiatives across the full AI-driven hardware development lifecycle (silicon, firmware, manufacturing, supply chain, cloud deployment)Collaborate with threat modeling teams to define and implement silicon and firmware security architecturesDesign and develop secure low-level firmware and hardware interfacesWrite and maintain secure, defensive code with emphasis on secure firmware developmentDevelop and implement firmware security features, including hardware root of trust technologiesApply cryptanalysis to evaluate and strengthen security mechanismsEnsure secure software and firmware development practices throughout the product lifecycleContribute to the design and implementation of Confidential Computing technologiesDemonstrate expertise in memory subsystems, side-channel attack mitigation, memory protection, scheduling, interrupts, and multithreading concepts
Key requirementsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experienceAbility to meet Microsoft security screening requirements (Microsoft Cloud Background Check)problem solvingdebugging and troubleshootingcollaborationC, C++, Rustcryptanalysissecurity architectures for silicon and firmware
